Quick, amusing read. I like the main character, Mandy, aka The Grim Reaper, primarily because she is so realistic. No hackneyed dialogue, silly romantic claptrap from her. I would like to read more Mandy stories and see greater character development, more plots, and get a better handle on her boss. I'm especially curious about Jackie, the murdered transvestite, who popped up unexpectedly at the end. That promises to be a truly unique story.
The characterization is a little shaky in this urban fantasy, but I enjoyed it. There is a potential romance here, but mostly that's saved for sequels as this book works to establish the main characters.
It was pretty jarring for me that the main character, a medical student, seemed so familiar with luxury brands. She always seemed to know what the brand names were behind clothing and furniture, yet she didn't come off to me as the sort to pour over fashion magazines. Maybe it's just me, since I don't know any of those brands, seeing them spelled out didn't add anything for me.
Thru no fault of her own, she is kicked out of medical school, dumped by her boyfriend, left with a HUGH student loan debt and has to move back in with her parents. All of which means she takes the first decent paying job she can find, Which may not have been the best idea, time will tell. Co-workers are thrilled to see her, only because it means they don't have to work with her boss anymore. Sounds like a dream job or maybe a nightmare job. BUT her boss is drop dead gorgeous. Soooo
Oh my, it's a rather immature, amateurish writing, poor dialogue, simplistic plot, terrible grammar. While there's some potential in the writing, the writer lacks skill. it reads like a middle school student's story writing. And for the price, which I expected a publishing house as well as a full-sized paperback, this book is a short story. Very inexperienced writing and not worth the money. I won't buy another, won't waste my time, and priced too high for such low quality writing.
The cover was one of the first things that caught my attention! Gorgeous and fun. Wicked for Hire is a fast-paced story that introduces us to Amanda Meyer, who needs a job after being expelled from medical school. She ends up at the FBI’s Paranormal Cases Division working for, Rick Rowling, the man responsible for her dismissal from medical school.
What I liked most about the story was the main characters. They were fun, quirky, and well-matched. Even Rick Rowland who is practical to a fault and comically egotistical made me laugh in several places. The premise of the story was also interesting. The length of the story made it possible to deal with one case, although I would have wished for a longer story with a secondary plot.
I felt Character backgrounds could have been beefed up. At the very least I would have liked to know how Mandy got her abilities. Were they inherited? Does anyone else in her family have the same abilities? How did Rick get into solving paranormal cases? Does he have some ability besides a high IQ (this is not actually stated in the story). How did the Paranormal Cases Division of the FBI even get started?
Overall, I enjoyed the story and would be interested in reading the rest of the series. I hope some of my questions get answered in the subsequent installments.

One surprise after the other. Woman is hired by the FBI as an assistant to a wacky, rich, entitled agent that drives everyone crazy. He got her fired from her college and career she thinks he owes her and he thinks she should thank him. The main characters have major personal problems and there are murder's to solve. Romance is cozy. Like someone else said, it was over way to fast, but the ending or entry into the next case leaves you ready to jump to the next story. The author has a lively sense of humor and a dark view of things that keep the reader off balance through the whole adventure.
