I'm not one to read a lot of sweet romances. I'm more inclined toward military romance. I prefer some grit to my library. Some heat. And I'm not impressed with a string of 5 star reviews either, but Katherine King surprised me. Considering this is her debut novel, she knocked it out of the ball park. Well done. Each chapter will leave you wanting more because this writer knows how to hook you from the get go. Ms. King has an elegant style of writing that educates the reader about the cruelty of World War II without suffocating them with the atrocities. This is not a story of victims, but of two survivors whose lives have been intertwined long before they met. I'm hooked. Keep writing, Ms. King. You done good.Product details

Interesting plot, some surprises, nice little "tie it all together" ending. And although I enjoyed it, I'd hardly rate it 5 stars. It was an enjoyable way to pass an afternoon. If you have a kindle and it's still free, give it a whirl.
I fell in love with this book the moment I started reading. The characters, the world, the romance and my favorite, the writing! A beautiful voice and wonderful hopeful story that I will read again and again. Can't recommend this one enough. Absolutely loved it. Can't wait to see what Ms. King writes next!
Extremely heartfelt story that will definitely keep you turning pages. This book is definitely full of surprises and so wonderful to read. Katherine King is exceptional with words, romance, and plot. So many different emotions and feelings are triggered in the book which makes it so much more real and enjoyable. You MUST read this!
Although I rarely write a review, I had to with this book. At first I thought it was a simple love story, the plot becomes intricate, the depth of the characters more moving, the story one of real meaning. Expect twists you never saw coming. I would strongly recommend this book to all who want to be encouraged by the depth of human commitment and resilience. I wish I could say it better but read the book to understand. !
Surprisingly good book which kept my interest when recovering from surgery...used the Audible app which was free with Prime. Pretty good character development although some of the plot was predictable and spone event was just not believable...reminded me of my high school English class where I first learned the term "Deus ex machina."
When I started reading this book I was intrigued by the story, but as the story progressed, I couldn't keep myself from picking it up in all my spare time to see what transpired with the characters. There was a plot twist that took me by surprise as well . I used up every possible minute to finish this book and wasn't disappointed. Loved it!
This book got me RIGHT HERE. All the feels. The love story was so sweet, the backstories for the main characters so devastatingly heartbreaking, the intertwinedness so touching, the resolution so hopeful. When I got done reading, I just wanted to wrap my arms around the story and hold it tight. Very, very well done. Now I just want to read it all again.
